Maundy Thursday, Good Friday
It is raining (again) and it is projected to be like this all through the weekend, once again putting our plans to mow the lawn and get some much needed yardwork done on hold.
So I am glad that when it was actually sunny yesterday (albeit a bit windy and chilly) I broke out of work a bit early so that I could go to the arboretum with my camera and admire the spring flowers.
I have posted a bunch of the photos that I took to my flickr site already (of course) but here are a few of my favorites.
Cookies the old-fashioned way
A couple of days ago something happened at the house that has never happened before. The doorbell rang, John went to answer it, and at the door were…. Girl Scouts, selling their cookies door-to-door.
I didn’t know that they still did that. I mean, I sold door-to-door in my neighborhood back in the dark ages when I was a Girl Scout, but the most that I have seen of Girl Scouts selling cookies lately has been either at stands at the grocery store or in the form of order sheets circulated by their parents at work.
Unfortunately, we had to decline their offer. I already bought cookies from my co-worker’s daughter a couple of months ago when he brought one of her order sheets in to work for her.
(It was a minor miracle is that one of us actually answered the door. We usually don’t, unless we are actually expecting someone. Plus our doorbell is rather soft, and can be difficult to hear if you are not in the vicinity of the front door when it is rung.)
Is winter over yet?
The weather has been really yo-yoing lately. Warm one day, cold the next, then back to warm. Today is is warm, but is thunderstorming all day.
Yesterday was a great day out… sunny and warm. We had the furnace turned off, and the windows open to catch the fresh air.
Saturday, when we were fencing outside at Unicorn? It was chilly, it was windy, and the low clouds promised (and delivered) squalls of rain toward the end of the day. I had some serious trouble motivating myself to unwind myself from my wool cloak and actually fight. (Fun fact: when you are cold, for some reason it hurts more when you get hit.)
Tomorrow it will be back to being on the chilly side again.
I am more then ready for spring.
